Charoite is a mineral in the monoclinic crystal system, appearing as an opaque gemstone with a wild, swirling pattern of interlocking crystals. The colors in each piece of Charoite range from bright lavender, violet and lilac to dark purple, with white, gray and black veining. It is an unusual mineral of rare occurrence, found in a mountainous region near the Chara River in Russia. This gemstone is somewhat durable but is softer than quartz. Because of the rare nature of the gemstone, found in only one region in Russia, after the fall of the Iron Curtain, Charoite had flooded the market. We do not expect this to last, as Geologically, Charoite is a rare gemstone. We highly suggest investing in some nice grade Charoite at this time.
